Ser Boros Blount is a knight of the Kingsguard.

Appearance and Personality

Ser Boros is an ugly man with a broad chest and short, bandy legs. He is bald, has a flat nose, jowls and grey hair.[1][2] He is short-tempered. [3] Ser Jaime considers him an angry paper shield. [4] Many characters throughout the series think of Blount with contempt due to the mans cowardice. [5][6][7][8][9][4][10]

History

Ser Boros took part in the Tourney at Lannisport, where he was defeated by the eventual champion, Lord Jorah Mormont. [11]

Recent Events

A Game of Thrones

With his sworn brothers Ser Meryn Trant and Ser Jaime Lannister, he escorts King Robert I to Winterfell. [1] According to Varys, Ser Boros and Ser Meryn, despite their oath to King Robert, are the Queen's creatures. [12] He is present in the throne room when Selmy is dismissed, and laughs at his former sworn brother's shame.[13]

A Clash of Kings

He does not hesitate to hit Sansa Stark again and again on order of King Joffrey I. [3][6] Sansa considers him the worst member of the Kingsguard. [14] Ser Boros survives the riot of King's Landing, when the royal procession is attacked on its return to the Red Keep after seeing Princess Myrcella off to Dorne. [7]

He is arrested and removed from the Kingsguard by Queen Cersei. This is due to his surrender without a fight to Tyrion Lannister's men when they were escorting Prince Tommen to the castle of Rosby. [8]

A Storm of Swords

He is reinstated to the Kingsguard by Lord Tywin Lannister upon his return as Hand of the King, to fill the vacancy left by Sandor Clegane when he deserted.[15] During the trial of Tyrion Lannister for the death of King Joffrey, he recounts the tale of Tyrion beating Joffrey after the riot and the threat against Joffrey's life.[16]

After the death of the King Joffrey, the Lord Commander of the Kingsguard, Jaime Lannister, makes Ser Boros the official food taster of the new king, Tommen I, a shameful post for any knight. Blount was enraged at this and stated that Jamie should be the food taster since he had lost his sword hand. Jaime stated that if Ser Boros was unhappy he could duel Jaime causing Blount to leave the room angrily.

A Feast for Crows

Ser Boros and Ser Osmund Kettleblack bring the news of Lord Tywin's death to Queen Cersei. [17] Ser Arys Oakheart thinks of Ser Boros and his familiarity with the Street of Silk in King's Landing. [18]

Cersei Lannister, when she frames Margaery Tyrell for treason, plans on Blount being the only Kingsguard knight available if Margaery asks for trial by combat (Cersei knew Blount would be no match for any champion the Faith of the Seven names). [19] When Cersei enquires about Blount's fighting skill and is assured Blount is an inept fighter. [20]

A Dance with Dragons

Ser Boros remains at the Red Keep. He guards Tommen when Ser Kevan has dinner with Cersei and the King. Ser Kevan thinks Blount feeble, and that tasting food is possibly the only thing he is good for. At the dinner, Ser Boros appears heavier and in poor health. He has a difficult time standing for the duration of the meal, and has to lean on a wall for support.[21]
