Prince Daeron Targaryen, sometimes referred to as Daeron the Drunken, was the eldest son of Maekar I.[1] Maester Aemon served at Daeron's keep until Daeron died of a pox he caught from a whore. He left one feeble-witted daughter as issue.[2]

Appearance

Daeron had sallow skin, sandy brown hair and a blonde beard.[3]

History

The Hedge Knight

Maekar sent his sons Daeron and Aegon to the Tourney at Ashford, hoping they would outshine his brother Baelor Targaryen's son Valarr, but being frightened of horses and weapons he decided to steal away from his escort, and dragged his brother and squire Aegon with him. He shaved Aegon's head to hide his Targaryen features and went to an inn to get drunk, where he lost Aegon.

Thinking that something may have happened to his sons, Maekar went out in search of Daeron and Aegon. When Daeron was found he told his father that a "huge robber knight made off with Aegon" and that he spent the whole time pursuing them. Later he went to Ser Duncan to apologize for lying and said that he had not even noticed that Aegon was gone.

He also told Ser Duncan about a dream he had. A great red dragon would fall on Ser Duncan, dead, but the knight would walk off alive. He said he did not know what it meant, but that his dreams came true and that he was scared of Ser Duncan. Daeron also told Ser Duncan that he would not fight, and at the first blow in the Trial of Seven he would stay on the ground and would also withdraw his accusations.

The Mystery Knight

Egg mentions that "Someday the dragons will return. My brother Daeron's dreamed of it, and King Aerys read it in a prophecy."[4]
