Dale is present with his father and brothers when Melisandre burns the sept on Dragonstone. He is sent by Stannis Baratheon past Cape Wrath and the Broken Arm, all along the coast of Dorne as far as the Arbor to distribute Stannis's claim concerning the legitimacy of Cersei Lannister's children with King Robert I.[1]

Dale fights at the Battle of the Blackwater with his ship, the Wraith. It is destroyed and sinks during the battle, and Dale loses his life.
