Dale was present with his father and brothers when Melisandre burned the sept on Dragonstone. He was sent by Stannis Baratheon past Cape Wrath and the Broken Arm, all along the coast of Dorne as far as the Arbor to distribute Stannis' claim concerning the legitimacy of Cersei Lannister's children with Robert I.

Dale fought at the Battle of the Blackwater with his ship, the Wraith. It was destroyed and sunk during the battle and Dale lost his life.
