Appearance and Character
A stocky youth in his early twenties, Ser Donnel has a wide nose and a shock of thick brown hair. Lady Catelyn Stark describes him as earnest and homely.[1]
Like most Waynwoods, Ser Donnel was always one for ceremony and tradition. He speaks with the solemn courtesy of a youth.[1]
Recent Events
A Game of Thrones
After the death of Lord Jon Arryn, the mountain clans of the Vale grew bolder. Ser Donnel desires to lead a hundred men to root out the mountain clans, but Lady Lysa Arryn forbids it, wanting to keep the swords of the Vale close to home.[1]
Ser Donnel leads the sortie from the Bloody Gate that saves Lady Catelyn Stark's party from the mountain clans in the Mountains of the Moon. After escorting her party to the Bloody Gate, Ser Donnel allows the wounded to recuperate within the battlements. He also sent ravens to the Eyrie and Gates of the Moon, informing Lady Arryn of her sister's arrival.[1]
A Clash of Kings
Donnel has replaced Ser Brynden Tully as the new Knight of the Gate at the Bloody Gate after Tully's resignation.[2][5]
A Feast for Crows
When Petyr Baelish teaches her some Arryn genealogy and their relation to the Waynwoods, Alayne Stone recalls that Donnel serves as the Knight of the Gate.[5][6][7]
