Season 7 of Game of Thrones is the seventh season of the series. The seventh season was officially announced in April, 2016.[1]

Unlike previous seasons, Season 7 will contain only seven episodes, as was officially announced by HBO in July, 2016.[2] In addition, filming will start in September, 2016[3] and continue until February, 2017,[4] with the summer of 2017 as officially confirmed air-date.[2] The weather has been cited as the reason that the seventh season is both filmed later and will be aired later,[2] as grim, gray weather is needed[5] due to the arrival of winter in the sixth season.

Production

Alan Taylor, Jeremy Podeswa, Mark Mylod and Matt Shakman have been announced as directors for the seventh season.[6]
