Grand Maester Gawen is a maester of the Citadel. He served as Grand Maester during the reigns of Aegon The Conqueror, King Aenys I and very briefly during the start of the reign of King Maegor.
History
Gawen served as Grand Maester for Aegon I. He and the Hand were charged with raising walls around King's Landing. He continued to serve during Aenys' reign. According to his writings Aenys by 42 AC despite being only thirty five looked like a man of sixty due to the pressure and stress of ruling.
Upon the death of Aenys and the coronation of Maegor by his mother Visenya Targaryen, Gawen protested stating that by the law of the inheritance, the crown should pass to Aenys son Aegon. For that statement Maegor beheaded him with Blackfyre, their was no further protest after that. [1]
Gawen was one of the three Grand Maesters that were executed during Maegors reign. [2]
