Gerold Dayne has an aquiline nose, high cheekbones and a strong jaw. He keeps his face clean-shaven. He has thick silver hair that falls to his collar like a silver glacier, divided by a streak of midnight black. His eyes appear black but at closer vantage they are a dark purple - dark and angry. Arianne Martell finds him so fair to look upon that she had not believed half the tales she’d heard of him.[3] In 300 AC, Gerold Dayne is in his late twenties.[4]

Arianne thinks to herself that if there is a handsomer man in Dorne she does not know him. He has a cruel mouth and a crueler tongue. He is a cruel man. Arianne considers that if she were to take him as consort her father would question her good sense, but their children would be as beautiful as dragonlords.[5]

While Ser Arys Oakheart rode to his death, Ser Gerold attempted to kill Princess Myrcella but failed, succeeding only in slicing off her ear and scarring her face.[5] He escaped capture.[6]

A Dance with Dragons

Balon Swann, with the help of Obara Sand, is currently hunting Darkstar to bring him to justice. Under Arianne's instruction, Myrcella has accused Darkstar for the death of Ser Arys Oakheart.[7]

The Winds of Winter

Darkstar is mentioned by Arianne when she travels to the Stormlands. Daemon Sand mentioned to her that Oberyn Martell considered "Darkstar" poison, Daemon mentions it was a pity Oberyn didn't kill him.[8] Arianne thinks privately to herself that Dayne was her most grievous sin, the one that she most regretted as,

With one stroke of his sword, he had changed her botched plot into something foul and bloody.
