Recent Events

A Storm of Swords

Captain Groleo was sent by Illyrio Mopatis with three ship, including the great cog Saduleon, to bring Daenerys Targaryen back to Pentos. Daenerys instead commands Captain Groleo to head for Slaver's Bay.[2] When Daenerys besieges Meereen she realizes she cannot take the city without siege engines and the Meereenese had burned all nearby tree's denying her wood to build them. So Daenerys commanded Groleo to drive his ships ashore and her Unsullied and sellswords use the wood of the ships to create siege engines, turtles and battering rams to take the city.

A Dance with Dragons

Groleo was made an admiral by Daenerys Targaryen but since Daenerys has no fleet it is an empty title. He inspects the thirteen ships brought by Xaro Xhoan Daxos and pronounces them seaworthy.

Groleo along with Daario Naharis, Jhogo, Hero and three of the kin of Hizdahr zo Loraq were given as hostages as a guarantee of the safe conduct for the Yunkai commanders who visited Meereen when a peace treaty was made between Meereen and Yunkai. Bloodbeard killed Groleo and presented the head of captain to Hizdahr in retaliation for the death of the Yunkai commander Yurkhaz zo Yunzak who was killed when Drogon appeared in the fighting pits.

Barristan Selmy is enraged and wishes to kill Bloodbeard. The Brazen Beasts who were in the room when the head is presented, were eager to recieve the order from Hizdahr so they could cut the Yunkai nobles down in retaliation for the murder of Groleo and were puzzled when the order was not given.

Selmy has Hizdahr request Groleo's body is returned so he could be decently buried. Selmy remembers Groleo had a wife, children and grandchildren and all the man wanted to do was return home to Pentos.
