Lord Gyles Rosby is the head of House Rosby. He is sickly and keeps coughing constantly.[1] The aunt of Lord Gyles's second wife is Lady Tanda Stokeworth. Lord Gyles's third cousin is Lady Tanda.[2] Lord Gyles has no immediate heir, though he has a ward at Rosby.[3]

Recent Events

A Game of Thrones

Lord Gyles remained at court in King's Landing during the War of the Five Kings.[4]

A Clash of Kings

Gyles attends the Tourney for King Joffrey's 13th Name Day.[5] When he received his copy of Stannis Baratheon's letter concerning the illegitimacy of Cersei Lannister's children with Robert I, he sent it on to King's Landing. Due to the war, King's Landing was being supplied mainly by Lord Gyles and Lady Tanda Stokeworth, for their lands were far enough away from the fighting to be untouched by war.[6] Lord Gyles was present when Tyrion offered his terms for peace for Ser Cleos Frey to take back to Robb Stark.[7]

Lord Gyles survived the attack by the mob on the procession returning to the castle after seeing Princess Myrcella off to Dorne.[8] After the attack, Cersei feared for her son's life and decided to send Prince Tommen in secret to Rosby, dressing him as a page and put him under the protection of Lord Gyles. Tyrion found out about the plan and had Lord Gyles and his entourage intercepted by Ser Jacelyn Bywater.[9]

During the Battle of the Blackwater, Lord Gyles stayed in Maegor's Holdfast with Cersei and the other noble ladies.[10]

A Storm of Swords

He was an attendant at the wedding of Sansa Stark and Tyrion Lannister. Lord Gyles accompanied Tyrion when he was sent to meet the delegation from Dorne. Lord Gyles was called as a witness for the prosecution in the trial of Tyrion Lannister for the death of King Joffrey I. He told of how he saw Tyrion fill the wedding chalice.[11]

A Feast for Crows

After the funeral of Lord Tywin Lannister, Lord Gyles promised Queen Cersei that he would order a statue made of Lord Tywin to be placed by the Lion Gate in King's Landing. Rosby's coughing has gotten much worse and he was beginning to cough up blood. Cersei learned that Tywin (before his death) had named Garth Tyrell to become the new master of the coin and in order to prevent another Tyrell from joining the council Cersei lied and told Lord Mace Tyrell that she had named Lord Gyles the new Master of Coin.[12] Upon assuming the duties of the master of the coin, Lord Gyles had to deal with many of the crowns debt problems and an angry envoy from the Iron Bank of Braavos, who was irate when he learned that the King would suspend all payments on the loans from the Iron Bank until the War of the Five Kings was over. The envoy hounded Lord Gyles so much that he took to his bed coughing up blood.[13] Eventually, Lord Gyles was overcome by his sickness and died at the Red Keep.[14] Cersei's paranoia led her to believe (falsely) that Gyles was killed by the Tyrells so they could replace him with Garth Tyrell.
