High King of Dorne
High King of Dorne was an ancient title claimed by the lords of House Yronwood during the times of the First Men, before to the Andal invasion, in the time where House Yronwood ruled northern Dorne, from the mountain domains of House Wyl to the headwaters of the Greenblood.
The title was also claimed by a ruler seated on a great wooden motte-and-bailey castle on the south bank of Greenwood near Lemonwood. This king was chosen by election from amongst a dozen noble families settled along the river or the eastern shores. These Kings hailed from House Wade, House Shell, House Holt, House Brook, House Hull, House Lake, House Brownhill, and House Briar. This system broke down when a disputed election set the royal houses to warring against each other. After a generation of conflict, three houses were extinct and the powerful river realm had shatttered into a dozen quarrelsome petty kingdoms.[1]
