King Jaehaerys I is crowned by the High Septon, as depicted by Douglas Wheatley in Fire & Blood.
|Allegiance||Faith of the Seven|
|Died||In 54 AC, Starry Sept of Oldtown|
The High Lickspittle, as he was dubbed by the Faith Militant during the uprising, was the third High Septon of the Faith of the Seven during the reign of Maegor I Targaryen and the early reign of Jaehaerys I Targaryen.
He replaced the elderly and amiable High Septon after his death in 44 AC. The Faith Militant dubbed him "the High Lickspittle," because he never spoke against King Maegor while hundreds of Poor Fellows were hunted and murdered for the bounty Maegor put on their scalps. In defiance, a band of Poor Fellows crowned one of their leaders, Septon Moon, as their own High Septon.
In 47 AC, the High Septon sailed from Oldtown to King's Landing, to officiate at the wedding between King Maegor and the three women known as the Black Brides.
After Maegor's death, the High Septon anointed King Jaehaerys I Targaryen when he visited Oldtown.
In 49 AC, he personally performed the marriage rites between Lord Rogar Baratheon and the Queen Regent, Alyssa Velaryon during the Golden Wedding. A tale was spread that he wetted himself when the dragons Vermithor and Silverwing ascended during the marriage.
The High Septon died in 54 AC while climbing steps to his bedchamber. Alfyn was eventually chosen as his successor.
