House Brune of the Dyre Den is a noble house from the Dyre Den, which is located in Crackclaw Point in the crownlands.[2] Neither its arms nor its motto have appeared in the books.

The Brunes of Brownhollow, a family of landed knights,[3] are cousins to the Brunes of the Dyre Den.[1] Archmaester Gyldayn considers the Brunes of Crackclaw to be half-wild.[4]

History

The Brothers Brune were legendary champions who brought peace to Crackclaw Point.[2]

Bernarr Brune was squire to Lord Alyn Stokeworth, the Hand of the King to King Aegon I and Aenys I Targaryen. When Lord Alyn was slain by the rebel Harren the Red, Bernarr cut down the outlaw and was rewarded with knighthood. Bernarr was later one of the champions in Maegor I Targaryen's trial of seven.[5]

During the Dance of the Dragons, the Brunes declared for Rhaenyra Targaryen. Brune forces joined Lord Walys Mooton to liberate Rook's Rest from the control of Aegon II Targaryen's greens.[4] Lord Brune marched from Maidenpool to King's Landing with Lord Manfryd Mooton, Lord Leowyn Corbray, and Ser Rennifer Crabb after Aegon's death.[6]

Brunes were with Rhaegar Targaryen, Prince of Dragonstone, at the Battle of the Trident during Robert's Rebellion.[2]
