House Bywater is a noble house from the crownlands.
According to semi-canon sources, they blazon their shields with fretty blue on white, three silver fish on a blue chief.[1]

History
When the realm began to turn against King Maegor I Targaryen for Prince Jaehaerys Targaryen, Lord Bywater was one of the few lords who gathered at his command.[2] However, when Maegor mysteriously died upon the Iron Throne, Lord Bywater fled to his seat.[3]
Jacelyn Bywater lost a hand fighting in the siege of Pyke during Greyjoy's Rebellion. Afterward he was knighted by King Robert I Baratheon, and he wears an iron hand in place of the one he lost.[4]
Recent Events
A Clash of Kings
Ser Jacelyn Bywater, captain of the Mud Gate, is named Commander of the City Watch of King's Landing when Janos Slynt is exiled to the Wall.[4]
On orders from Tyrion Lannister, Jacelyn seizes Prince Tommen Baratheon and arrests Ser Boros Blount at Rosby.[5] He is given a lordship for his service.[6] Jacelyn assigns runners to aid Tyrion during the Battle of the Blackwater.[7]
A Storm of Swords
Bronn informs Tyrion that Jacelyn was killed during the Blackwater by his own fleeing men.[8]

The known Bywaters during the timespan of the events described in A Song of Ice and Fire are:
- Lord {Jacelyn Bywater}, called the Ironhand, a gold cloak officer killed at the Battle of the Blackwater.[8]
