History
Martyn Cassel was killed at the Tower of Joy in the Red Mountains of Dorne during a battle with three members of Aerys II Targaryen's Kingsguard. Lord Eddard Stark buried him there in a cairn.[2]
Martyn fathered four sons, yet only Jory lived to be a man. Jory was among those who attended the wedding of Eddard and Catelyn Tully. In his attempt to remove the dress from Catelyn, he tore it.[3]
Martyn's brother, Ser Rodrik Cassel, was married three times and had only daughters. His only surviving child is Beth.[4]
Recent Events
A Game of Thrones
Jory Cassel is captain of the guards at Winterfell,[5] while Ser Rodrik Cassel is the master-at-arms at the castle.[5]
Jory takes part in the Hand's tourney.[6] He is slain by Lannister red cloaks in King's Landing.[7] Jory's body is sent north to be buried next to his grandfather at Winterfell.[2]
Rodrik accompanies Catelyn Stark south to King's Landing[8] and east to the Eyrie.[9] He returns to Winterfell after being named castellan by Catelyn.[10]
A Clash of Kings
Rodrik departs to take care of the Hornwood inheritance after Lady Donella Hornwood is kidnapped.[11] He breaks Dagmer Cleftjaw's shield wall at Torrhen's Square and ends the siege of the ironborn.[12]
Theon Greyjoy uses Beth as a hostage to prevent her father from storming Winterfell. During the attempt to retake Winterfell, Rodrik is slain by Ramsay Snow.[13]
