House Cassel is a minor house of the north in the service of the Starks of Winterfell. According to a semi-canon source, they blazon their arms with ten white wolf heads on grey with a black border.[1]

History

Martyn Cassel was killed at the Tower of Joy in the Red Mountains of Dorne during a battle with three members of Aerys II Targaryen's Kingsguard. Lord Eddard Stark buried him there in a cairn.[2]

Martyn fathered four sons, yet only Jory lived to be a man. Jory was among those who attended the wedding of Eddard and Catelyn Tully. In his attempt to remove the dress from Catelyn, he tore it.[3]

Martyn's brother, Ser Rodrik Cassel, was married three times and had only daughters. His only surviving child is Beth.[4]

Rodrik accompanies Catelyn Stark south to King's Landing[8] and east to the Eyrie.[9] He returns to Winterfell after being named castellan by Catelyn.[10]

A Clash of Kings
