House Crakehall of Crakehall is a noble house from the Westerlands. Their seat, Crakehall, is located along the Ocean Road, at the south of the Westerlands, between the Sunset Sea and a large forest. The Crakehalls are known for their uncommon robustness.[1]

Their arms depict a black and white brindled boar on brown.[2][3] According to semi-canon sources their words are «None so Fierce».[4]

History

One of the outstanding supporters of Daemon Blackfyre mentioned by Ser Eustace Osgrey was Redtusk, who could have been a Crakehall. Ser Roland Crakehall was one of the three members of the Kingsguard that escorted part of the royal family to Ashford. He and his sworn brothers took part in the trial of seven on the side of Prince Aerion. Roland was one of the three Kingsguard knights who lead the loyalist forces to thwart the Second Blackfyre Rebellion.

On their journey to Casterly Rock to broker the proposed marriages of Elia and Oberyn Martell with Jaime and Cersei Lannister, the Martell siblings and their mother stopped at Crakehall.[5] Along with Merrett Frey, Jaime squired for Lord Sumner Crakehall against the Kingswood Brotherhood. Ser Elys Westerling and Lord Roland Crakehall were the first to enter the throne room of the Red Keep after Jaime slew King Aerys II.

Recent Events

A Game of Thrones

Among the heraldry gathered for the Tourney of the Hand is that of a knight of Crakehall. Lord Walder Frey questions his paternity over the sons of his third wife that disappointed him at the tourney, arguing that Amarei was a Crakehall and all of the Crakehall women are sluts.

Tyrion Lannister sees the brindled boar of Crakehall among the banners of his father, Lord Tywin Lannister. The messenger that brings Tywin the news of the defeat of Ser Jaime Lannister's army at the camps wears the brindled boar of Crakehall half-obscured by dried blood.

A Clash of Kings

Ser Burton Crakehall boasted that he had slain Ser Beric Dondarrion, until the Lightning Lord reappeared, killing all the men from his column. Lord Roland Crakehall is reported slain at the Battle of Oxcross, but the rumors are false. Arya Stark spies the brindled boar of Crakehall among the banners in Tywin Lannister's army as it leaves Harrenhal. Little Walder Frey quarters his shield to depict in one quarter the brindled boar of his grandmother's house.

A Storm of Swords

Ser Lyle Crakehall is held captive at Pinkmaiden Castle after the Battle of the Fords.[6] Among the living men that Jaime considers stronger than him, he includes Lyle, the Strongboar of Crakehall. Beric Dondarrion shows Arya Stark a spot above his left ear where his temple was caved in, stating that it is where Ser Burton Crakehall hit him with his mace. Ser Merlon Crakehall is one of the nobles that accompany Tyrion to welcome Prince Oberyn Martell to King's Landing

A Feast for Crows

Ser Lyle Crakehall, the Strongboar, reminds Queen Cersei Lannister of King Robert Baratheon, and she is angry at him when he celebrates King Tommen's wedding by saying that "Westeros has two queens now."

The Crakehall boar is spotted among the gathered nobility that escorts the corpse of Lord Tywin Lannister back to Casterly Rock. The Strongboar is seen training with the lance at King's Landing.

Lyle joins Jaime Lannister's expedition to end the Siege of Riverrun. During their trip, they cross a place named Sow's Horn where an old knight named Ser Roger Hogg defends his towerhouse. Since Roger is a big man, Strongboar questions him about his ancestors to see if he descended from the Crakehalls.

After hearing of the sack of Saltpans at Darry, Strongboar insists he will slay the Hound. Jaime thinks that even though both men are large and powerful, Sandor Clegane is quicker and fiercer. Lyle consoles Lady Amerei Frey (herself the granddaughter of Amarei Crakehall), and promises her that he would return to deal with Dondarrion and his outlaws after ending the siege of Riverrun. Jaime does not like the passionate looks he and Ami exchanged.

One night at Harrenhal Jaime sees Strongboar and Ser Flement Brax sparring against each other and thinks that Ser Lyle will win this fight. After the siege at Riverrun finishes peacefully, Strongboar is angry because he has not had the opportunity to fight. He rides back to Darry, as promised, to fight the Hound or Dondarrion, accompanied by Beardless Jon Bettley. Jaime considers the possibility of expelling Cersei and naming Kevan Lannister the Hand. If he refuses, he thinks of Ser Forley Prester or Lord Roland Crakehall as alternatives.
