House Drumm of Old Wyk is a noble house from the Iron Islands, tracing their history back for at least eight hundred years. They are the Lords of Old Wyk,[1] the island considered holiest by the ironmen[2] and the first one colonized by the First Men.[3]

According to semi-canon sources the Drumms blazon their shield with a bone hand, white on red.[4] Neither their arms or their words appear in the text.

History

Some Drumms were rock kings of Old Wyk in antiquity. For instance, the rock king Regnar Drumm, called Raven-feeder, was chosen High King of the Iron Islands by kingsmoot after Erich I Greyiron renounced his crown.[5]

The Drumms later joined with the Greyjoys, Hoares, Orkwoods, and Andals to bring down the hereditary House Greyiron.[6]

Glorious Drumms of old include Dale the Dread and Roryn the Reaver.[2] Dagon Drumm was allegedly a necromancer,[7] while Gormond the Oldfather is claimed to have fathered a hundred sons.[2] Hilmar the Cunning is said to have taken Red Rain, a Valyrian steel sword, from a knight with his wits and a wooden cudgel.[2]

Lord Drumm of Old Wyk was put to the sword by westermen during Lady Johanna Lannister's invasion of the Iron Islands in 134 AC.[8]

Recent Events

A Clash of Kings

When Theon Greyjoy arrives at Pyke, Aeron Greyjoy tells him that Dagmer Cleftjaw has gone to Old Wyk to summon the Stonehouses and the Drumms.[9] The houses of Old Wyk agree to support Balon Greyjoy during the War of the Five Kings.[10]

A Feast for Crows

After Balon falls to his death at Pyke, Aeron calls for a kingsmoot on Old Wyk to choose Balon's successor as King of the Isles and the North.[11] Lord Dunstan Drumm's ship, Thunderer, is spotted by Victarion Greyjoy on Old Wyk's shores.[12]

Wielding Red Rain, Dunstan claims the Seastone Chair for himself at the kingsmoot, his champions being his sons, Denys and Donnel Drumm, and Andrik the Unsmiling. Aeron thinks his champions are notable and Dunstan starts speaking well. However, the fact that Dunstan talks too much of his family's past glories, and that the contents of his chests only contain bronze, diminish his support. Euron Greyjoy is instead chosen king.[2]

After the taking of the Shields, Victarion sees Lords Rodrik Harlaw, Gorold Goodbrother, and Dunstan Drumm talking in the yard of Oakenshield. Euron names Andrik Lord of Southshield, a move understood by Victarion as a strategy of depriving The Drumm of his strong right hand.[13]
