- Presumably the House first supports Renly Baratheon before joining his brother Stannis. Although the course of their lord is unknown, Ser Richard remains in Stannis's service after the Battle of the Blackwater, and is among the knights known as the Queen's Men.
- During the Battle of Castle Black, Ser Richard kills Dormund, one of Tormund Giantsbane's sons.
- Ser Richard becomes one of Stannis's principal sworn swords, acting as his second-in-command during his Northern campaign. He is still with Stannis during their march towards Winterfell.
