According to Jon Connington the Mandrakes once loomed large in the histories of the Seven Kingdoms.[1]

A Dance with Dragons
Marq Mandrake, like the rest of the Golden Company, swears his allegiance to Prince Aegon Targaryen before they invade Westeros. Marq may not be a genuine Mandrake, as a man in the free companies can call himself whatever he chooses.
