About
It was a powerful and rich family until Aerys II stripped them of their lands and exiled their lord for his failures as Hand. King Robert I restored their title and some of their lands when he took the Iron Throne, but the family's wealth and status has not completely recovered - the present Lord Merryweather is nowhere as rich and powerful as his grandfather, the old man who served as Aerys's Hand.[4]

A Song of Ice and Fire
- Owen Merryweather was the Hand of King for Aerys II when Robert's Rebellion began. His incapacity to realize that the rebel lords were a serious threat until it was too late led to the stripping of his lands and his exile. Ser Jaime Lannister referred to him as "the horn-of-plenty hand."
- Lady Taena swore at Tyrion Lannister's trial that she had seen him drop something into Joffrey I's wine. This pleased Queen Cersei.
- Lady Taena plays a significant part during the start of King Tommen's reign, being a confidant, adviser and sporadic sex partner of Cersei.
- During the feast that Aerys II held when Cersei came to court for the first time, Lord Owen talked about raising taxes on wine, which led to Lord Rykker making a joke about Lord Tywin Lannister's ability to shit gold.
- After Robert I came to the throne, he returned the titles of House Merryweather, but only some of the lands.
- Queen Cersei offered to foster Russell Merryweather in King's Landing. Taena said she would consider it.
- After Cersei's imprisonment by the Faith, Taena and Orton fled King's Landing and returned to Longtable.
