House Mooton of Maidenpool is a noble house from the Riverlands. Their seat of Maidenpool is one of the main ports and trade centers of the Bay of Crabs. According to legend, this was the location where Florian the Fool saw Jonquil for the first time while she was bathing with her sisters.[1]

Their blazon is a red salmon on white, over a white field with a golden tressure. [2] According to semi-canon sources their motto is «Wisdom and strength».[3][1]

History

Prior to the War of Conquest, Maidenpool failed to conquer Crackclaw Point.[4]

The Mootons began the Dance of the Dragons on the side of Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen and the blacks. Lord Walys Mooton recaptured Rook's Rest for the blacks, but was then slain in a failed attempt to kill King Aegon II Targaryen's dragon, Sunfyre. His brother, Lord Manfryd Mooton, hosted the dragonriders Prince Daemon Targaryen and the dragonseed Nettles, for a time. Manfryd aligned with Aegon and the greens after refusing Rhaenyra's order to kill Nettles. Rhaenyra ordered that a decree of attainder be drawn up against the Mootons, but she soon lost power after the Storming of the Dragonpit.[5]

When Lord Bloodraven marched on Whitewalls to quash the Second Blackfyre Rebellion, among the river lords who came in support was Lord Mooton.

For many years the Mootons were among the most influential of the river lords. However, the wealth of the family and the town has been significantly reduced since House Mooton chose to side with their kings, House Targaryen, against their liege lords, House Tully, during Robert's Rebellion.[6] Ser Myles Mooton, who had been Prince Rhaegar Targaryen's squire, was slain by Lord Robert Baratheon at the Battle of the Bells.
