House Santagar of Spottswood is a house of landed knights from Spottswood in Dorne.[1] They are one of the main houses sworn to Sunspear.[3]

Neither their arms or their motto appear in the books. In a semi-canon source they blazon their arms with a spotted leopard with a golden axe, over a per bend sinister blue and white field.[4]

History

The Santagars were adventuring Andals who formed their own kingdom in Dorne during the coming of the Andals to Westeros.[2]

During his conquest of Dorne, King Daeron I Targaryen remarked that the Knight of Spottswood stabled his sand steeds in his own hall.[5]

Recent Events

A Game of Thrones

Ser Rodrik Cassel asks Ser Aron Santagar, the master-at-arms of the Red Keep, about the Valyrian steel dagger used in the murder attempt on Bran Stark.[6]

Aron rides in the Hand's tourney. After tilting thrice without result against Lothor Brune, he falls to Lord Jason Mallister.[7]

A Clash of Kings

Aron escorts the royal retinue that is attacked by the smallfolk of King's Landing after the sailing of Princess Myrcella Baratheon to Dorne. The angry mob pulls him from his saddle and bashes his head with a stone. After the riot of King's Landing, Aron's body is barely recognizable.[8]

A Feast for Crows

Lady Sylva Santagar is one of Princess Arianne Martell's friends. She joins in Arianne's conspiracy to crown Myrcella and is caught with the other conspirators.[9]

Sylva receives no punishment from Doran Martell, Prince of Dorne, but her father, Ser Symon Santagar, sends her away to marry the very old Lord Eldon Estermont.[10] Arianne believes that House Santagar does not have the power to intimidate her father, Doran.[11]
