House Seaworth of Cape Wrath is a noble house from Cape Wrath in the Stormlands. The blazon of the house is a black ship on a pale grey background, with an onion on its sails.[1] Although their keep is in the Stormlands, they are sworn not to House Baratheon of Storm's End but to House Baratheon of Dragonstone in the Crownlands.[2]

History

House Seaworth was created after Davos, a common smuggler, broke the Redwyne cordon and smuggled foodstuffs to the starving garrison of Storm's End during Robert's Rebellion. For his bravery in the Siege of Storm's End, Davos was awarded a knighthood along with choice lands on Cape Wrath, including a small keep and a forest to hunt in, by Lord Stannis Baratheon. For his years of smuggling, however, Davos lost joints on his left hand.[1]

Recent Events

A Clash of Kings

Ser Davos Seaworth tours the Stormlands in an attempt to rouse the storm lords to Stannis Baratheon's cause. He breaks bread with Gulian Swann and old Lord Penrose and has a midnight rendezvous with the Tarths, but is turned away by all others, and none consent. Davos and his sons are in attendance when Melisandre burns the sept on Dragonstone.

The Seaworth ships are sent out to spread word of Stannis's claim to the Iron Throne to supplement 117 ravens. Davos is sent to Gulltown, the Fingers, the Three Sisters, and White Harbor. Dale visits the coast of Dorne and the Reach as far as the Arbor, while Allard goes to Braavos and the other coastal Free Cities. Stannis grants them 100 knights to read the letters aloud at septs and inns.

Davos is present at the parley beneath the walls of Storm's End when Ser Cortnay Penrose refuses Stannis Baratheon's offers. Davos rows Melisandre into Storm's End.

Davos participates in the Battle of the Blackwater; four of his sons die during the battle.

A Storm of Swords

Ser Davos is rescued from the Spears of the Merling King by one of Salladhor Saan's Lyseni galleys. Upon his return to Dragonstone he plans to murder Melisandre but is stopped and thrown into prison.

After Lord Alester Florent betrays Stannis, the king makes Davos Hand of the King and names him Lord of the Rainwood and Admiral of the Narrow Sea.[3] It is unknown if the title 'Lord of the Rainwood' is granted to House Seaworth in perpetuity, which would elevate the family from landed knights to full-fledged lords.

A Feast for Crows

It is reported that Lord Wyman Manderly has executed Davos in White Harbor.

A Dance with Dragons

It is revealed that Lord Manderly had a look-alike prisoner executed instead. He sends Davos to track down Rickon Stark.

Devan Seaworth accompanied Stannis to the Wall, but he remains at Castle Black with Melisandre when Stannis marches on Deepwood Motte.
