Jaehaerys II was King of the Seven Kingdoms and the sixteenth Targaryen to sit the Iron Throne. He was an amiable, clever, and sickly man who died young.[1] He was the second son of Aegon V. Like his brothers he married for love instead of an arranged marriage. According to Ser Barristan Selmy, Jaehaerys once stated that:
"Madness and greatness were two sides of the same coin and every time a new Targaryen was born, the gods would toss the coin in the air and the world would hold its breath to see how it would land"[2]
Due to his delicate health, Jaehaerys was considered weak by many, but Ser Barristan, who served him, thought differently. Jaehaerys' reign only lasted three years, but he reigned well in those short years.
Appearance
According to a semi-canon source, Jaehaerys was sickly looking, pale and frail with large purple eyes. He wore Maekar's crown.[3]
