Lady Jeyne Arryn, also called the Maiden of the Vale, was a member of House Arryn and a Lady of the Eyrie. She ruled the Vale of Arryn during the civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons.[1]

History

Lady Jeyne became Lady of the Eyrie at some point in the late reign of King Jaehaerys I Targaryen, as she was still a minor during, and was thus unable to attend, the Great Council of 101 AC. Lord Yorbert Royce served as Lord Protector for at least some of her minority, and attended the Great Council in her stead.[2]

On the death of Lady Rhea Royce, her husband Prince Daemon Targaryen appealed to Lady Jeyne in the hopes of claiming Runestone for himself, but she not only rejected his claim, but ordered him to leave the Vale.[3]

At the start of the civil war, Prince Jacaerys Velaryon flew north on his dragon to foster allies for the cause of his mother, Rhaenyra Targaryen (herself the daughter of an Arryn). One of the places he went to was the Eyrie. There, he treated with Lady Jeyne and made a promise to her. Jeyne brought the Eyrie to the side of the blacks during the civil war. Though snows closed the passes through the Mountains of the Moon the Maiden of the Vale proved true to her word and sent men by sea by way of Gulltown to join the queen's hosts. When Rhaenyra fled King's Landing, Ser Harrold Darke urged her to seek refuge with Lady Arryn in the Vale, but Her Grace refused his council.[1]

Lady Jeyne served as one of the original seven regents to her cousin King Aegon III Targaryen. She died in 134 AC of an illness while in Gulltown.[4]
