Johanna Westerling was a member of the ancient and then prestigious House Westerling and became Lady of Casterly Rock upon her marriage to Lord Jason Lannister.

History

Before their gold mines fail them, House Westerling was among the most prestigious houses in the Westerlands and who's name is respected in the Seven Kingdoms. Scions of the house includes the former Jeyne Westerling, who became queen consort to Maegor I Targaryen and Ser Harrold Westerling, who served as Lord Commander of the Kingsguard under Viserys I Targaryen.

During the civil war known as The Dance of the Dragons, Lady Johanna's husband, Lord Jason Lannister and his brother Tyland support the Greens. When Lord Jason led his banners and marched to the field in support of Aegon II, Lord Dalton Greyjoy, known as The Red Kraken attacked the Westerlands and cause much damaged to the region. At the end of the civil war, Lord Jason died at the hands of Pate of Longleaf, later known as Lionslayer; and left Casterly Rock in considerable disarray.

Lady Johanna, as Lord Jason's widow led Casterly Rock. She reclaimed the dwindling glory of House Lannister and fought against the Greyjoys. Lady Johanna also lent gold to King's Landing to help rebuild the extensive damages caused by the previous civil war.
