Jory Cassel is with the Stark party that finds the direwolves in the snow. He claims it is an omen that the direwolf had an antler stuck in its throat and that the direwolf pups had been born after their mother had died.[4] As part of the plans for the feast in King Robert I's honor, Lord Eddard plans to send Jory south to meet the king on the road with an honor guard.[5] He accompanies Lord Stark south as his captain of the guard in King's Landing. After the incident at the Trident where Arya's direwolf assaulted Prince Joffrey, Jory was the first to find Arya, who had fled. He helped Arya chase away Nymeria by throwing stones at her.[6]
He takes part in the Tourney of the Hand, unhorsing Ser Horas Redwyne and one of the Freys. He loses to Lothor Brune in the tourney only after a judgement by King Robert I.[7] He accompanies Lord Eddard to a brothel to find one of Robert's bastards. On the return trip to the Red Keep, he is slain by Ser Jaime Lannister's men as a lesson to Lord Eddard.[8]
