Ser Lancel Lannister is the eldest son of Kevan Lannister. A young, blond-haired man, he is said to closely resemble his cousin, Jaime Lannister. He has green eyes and is sixteen.[1]

Recent Events

A Game of Thrones

Lancel served as squire to King Robert Baratheon, and was directly responsible for his death: on the request of Queen Cersei Lannister, he provided the King with a large dose of strongwine as Robert tracked an enormous boar while hunting in the Kingswood.[2] The boar slew Robert.[3]

A Clash of Kings

In payment for his service, Cersei has him knighted, and allows him to have sex with her.[4] Although the affair elicits strong emotions from Lancel, Cersei eventually grows bored and rebuffs him. He is caught in a web between Cersei and Tyrion Lannister, being used as a pawn by both.[5] He survived the riot after the procession to see Princess Myrcella Baratheon off to Dorne was attacked in the streets of King's Landing.[6]

For services rendered during the Battle of the Blackwater, in which he was severely injured, Lancel is named the new Lord of Darry.[7]

A Storm of Swords

Critically injured during the Battle of the Blackwater, Lancel recovers with the help of the High Septon and develops a new found piety to the Faith of the Seven. As part of the pact between Lord Tywin Lannister and Lord Walder Frey concerning the betrayal of Robb Stark, Lancel was to wed a Frey.[8]

A Feast for Crows

He was wed to Lord Walder Frey's granddaughter Amerei and given lordship of the lands of Darry. Jaime visits Lancel at castle Darry to find out if he slept with Cersei. Lancel admits this as well as supplying Robert Baratheon with the strongwine. Shortly after Lancel leaves his wife and castle to swear service as part of the newly reformed Faith Militant.

A Dance with Dragons

Following near death in A Storm of Swords, Lancel takes a pious route choosing to devote his life to the seven as thanks for their sparing it. Lancel admits this to Jaime Lannister aswell as telling him of his intimate relations with Cersei. Lancel then proceeds to lay of all claims he has to the lands of House Darry and also chooses to leave his wife, Amerei Frey. Lancel is then seen later in the novel, as one of the Warrior's Sons, a division of knights devoted to the seven. It is thought that he confessed of his sins with Cersei to the High Septon, which was an imperative part of Cersei's arrest. Lancel, under the command of Ser Theodan the True, makes up part of Cersei's escort in her 'walk of shame'.
