Leyton Hightower, known as the Old Man of Oldtown, is the Lord of the Hightower and head of House Hightower. His other titles include the Voice of Oldtown, Lord of the Port, Defender of the Citadel, and Beacon of the South.[2][1] Leyton's flagship is Honor of Oldtown.[3]

Leyton has been married four times; his current wife is Rhea Florent. One of Leyton's daughters, Alerie, is married to Lord Mace Tyrell of Highgarden.[1]

History

Lord Leyton was unhorsed at a tourney at Storm's End by Ser Barristan Selmy.[4] Lord Tywin Lannister offered his dwarf son, Tyrion, to Leyton for marriage to one of his daughters, but Leyton, feeling insulted by the suggestion, rejected Tywin's offer.[5]

Leyton was present for the tourney at Lannisport held to celebrate the victory of the Iron Throne over the Greyjoy rebels during Greyjoy's Rebellion in 289 AC. There, his youngest daughter, Lynesse, was named the queen of love and beauty at the tourney's end by Ser Jorah Mormont, who had become smitten with Lynesse and who asked Leyton permission to marry her that same night. Leyton accepted the offer.[6]

By 300 AC, Leyton has not descended from the Hightower in more than a decade.[7]

Recent Events

A Clash of Kings

Lord Leyton supports Renly Baratheon at the beginning of the War of the Five Kings.[8]

A Storm of Swords

Following the Battle of the Blackwater, the small council rewards the absent Leyton with lesser tracts of land taken from the defeated.[5]

A Feast for Crows

In response to the taking of the Shields by Euron Greyjoy, Willas Tyrell sends word from Highgarden so Leyton can prepare Oldtown's defenses.[9]

Despite the ironborn threat, Lord Leyton remains in the Hightower supposedly reading magic texts with his eldest daughter, Malora, while his sons take care of House Hightower's duties.[3]

Quotes

Samwell: The Hightower must be doing something.
Captain: To be sure. Lord Leyton's locked atop his tower with the Mad Maid, consulting books of spells. Might be he'll raise an army from the deeps. Or not.[3]
