Lord Staunton was a Lord of Rook's Rest and a head of House Staunton.[1] His given name has not been been revealed.

History

Lord Staunton was one of the lesser lords, bannermen or vassals that sat on the black council.[1]

After the Sack of Duskendale, Rook's Rest was to be Ser Criston Cole's next objective. Forewarned of their coming Lord Saunton closed his gates and defied the attackers. Behind his walls his Lordship could only watch as his fields, woods and villages were burned, his sheep, cattle and smallfolk put to the sword. When provisions inside began to run low, he dispatched a raven to Dragonstone, pleading for help.[1]

Nine days after his plea for help, the sound of leathern wings could be heard, the dragon Meleys and Princess Rhaenys had arrived to help. Then the king with Sunfyre and his brother with Vhagar joined the battle, killing Princess Rhaenys and her dragon Meleys. Ser Criston Cole and Aemond then took Rook's Rest and put the garrison to the sword. Lord Staunton's head was taken to King's Landing and mounted above the Old Gate.[1]
