History

The Lords of Stone Hedge claimed the title of River King during the Age of Heroes and became bitter rivals with their neighbor, the Blackwood kings of Raventree Hall.[10]

When the riverlands were under the domination of King Arrec Durrandon, King Harwyn Hoare of the Iron Islands invaded it. Lady Agnes Blackwood and her sons marched against King Harwyn's ironborn but were attacked from behind by Lord Lothar Bracken who had made a alliance with the ironborn believing Harwyn would make him King of the Trident. Lord Lothar later helped Harwyn defeat King Arrec's host at the Battle at Fairmarket. Half a year later, Lothar led a rebellion against Harwyn who had taken the riverlands for himself, but Harwyn crushed the rebellion, sacked Stone Hedge and starved Lothar in a crow cage.[11]

Targaryen Era

During Aegon's Conquest, Lord Bracken joined Lord Edmyn Tully and other riverlords who rebelled against King Harren Hoare, Harwyn's grandson.[12]

Lord Humfrey Bracken declared for the greens at the start of the Dance of the Dragons. After their defeat at the Battle of the Burning Mill, the Brackens survivors were led by Humfrey's bastard son, Ser Raylon Rivers. Prince Daemon Targaryen had already took Stone Hedge and made Lord Humfrey his captive by the time Ser Raylon came back to the castle. The Brackens surrendered and stopped supporting the greens.[13] At the end of the war, Lord Humfrey joined the black host led by his liege lord, Elmo Tully.[8]

Lord Bracken was the Hand of the King for Aegon IV Targaryen. He pushed for his daughters, Barba and Bethany, to become Aegon's mistresses. Lord Bracken and Bethany were executed in 178 AC after Bethany was caught in bed with Ser Terrence Toyne, a knight of Aegon's Kingsguard.[7]

During the First Blackfyre Rebellion, Lord Bracken sailed across the Narrow sea to hired Myrish crossbowmen for Daemon I Blackfyre. However, he was retarded by storms and didn't come back in time for the Battle of the Redgrass Field. At the start of the reign of King Aerys I Targaryen, Lord Bracken was dying. Since his eldest son had died during the Great Spring Sickness, his second son, Ser Otho Bracken, was set to inherit Stone Hedge.[14]

Recent History

Lords Bracken and Blackwood came to Riverrun when Lysa Tully was young to put their feud before the judgment of Hoster Tully, Lord Paramount of the Trident.[15] Hoster attempted to marry Ser Brynden Tully to Lord Bracken's daughter.[16]

Recent Events

A Clash of Kings

During the liberation of Stone Hedge, Lord Jonos is wounded and his nephew, Hendry, is slain.[18]

A Storm of Swords

Lord Jonos is cold toward Catelyn because she released Robb's captive, Ser Jaime Lannister.[19] Lord Jonos is present at the funeral of his liege lord, Hoster Tully.[20] After Joffrey's death, the new king, Tommen I Baratheon, pardons Jonos for his part in the War of the Five Kings.[6]

A Feast for Crows

Lord Jonos besieges Raventree Hall on behalf of the Iron Throne.[21]

A Dance with Dragons

Ser Jaime Lannister arrives to end the siege of Raventree, finding Jonos abed with a common woman named Hildy. Jonos hands Jaime a map with the lands he wants for subduing Lord Tytos Blackwood, along with compensation for the damage Ser Gregor Clegane and the Mountain's men did to his land and family. During his surrender to Jaime, Tytos agrees to surrender a smaller portion of Blackwood land than requested by Lord Bracken. Jaime upsets Jonos by ordering him to send one of his own daughters to attend Queen Regent Cersei Lannister at court in King's Landing.[10]
