A Clash of Kings

Weese sends Arya Stark to Lucan to get a new sword for Ser Lyonel, who has notched his old one in practice. When Arya hands Lucan the note Weese has given her, he grunts, although Arya does not believe he can actually read. He gives Arya a heavy longsword but tells her to deliver his message to Weese that Ser Lyonel does not deserve such a good sword, as he is an oaf. Arya assents, yet has no intention of transmitting the message, because she expects Weese would punish her. She thinks Lucan should deliver his own insults.[1]

Arya tries to talk Gendry into running away from Harrenhal, but he is opposed to the idea, considering Harrenhal a better place than others and Lucan a fair enough master.[2]

When the Brave Companions turn cloak and arrange for Harrenhal to fall into the hands of the northmen, Lord Roose Bolton takes his seat there. Subsequently, a couple of people who used to be in leading positions in the service of Lady Shella Whent are executed for collaborating with House Lannister. On the order of Lord Bolton, Lucan is beheaded by Steelshanks Walton for making weapons for the Lannisters. Like others, Lucan's head is tarred and put on a spike on the ramparts of the gatehouse as feast for the crows.[3]

Lucan's death creates a rift between Arya and Gendry. Gendry liked Lucan and he blames Arya for his death, as she helped the northmen and the Brave Companions to take over Harrenhal, although she did not actually know this would be the result of her actions.[3]
