Masha Heddle is the innkeeper of the crossroads inn in the riverlands.

In the television adaptation Game of Thrones, Masha is portrayed by Susie Kelly.[1]

Appearance and Character

Masha is a fat and kind middle-aged woman. Her teeth have turned blood-red due to her fondness of chewing sourleaf. She also enjoys honey cakes.[2][3]

History

Masha let Septon Meribald sleep beside the hearth when she did not have room for him, and gave him food when he left the inn.[3]

Recent Events

A Game of Thrones

Upon her arrival at the crossroads inn, Catelyn Stark remembers that when she was a child, Masha always had a smile and a sweet cake for the children.[2]

Masha does not want to get involved when Catelyn arrests Tyrion Lannister, so she lets Catelyn take him. When the Lannisters invade the riverlands, Tyrion's father, Lord Tywin Lannister, hangs Masha on a gibbet in the inn's yard as punishment. Tyrion sees her body when he arrives at the inn to meet with his father.[4]

A Storm of Swords

Masha's nephew takes over the inn.[5]

A Feast for Crows

Masha's nephew is killed by an unspecified nobleman. Afterwards, Masha's nieces Willow and Jeyne manage the inn and become associates of the brotherhood without banners.[6]

Quotes

Tyrion: Don't kill him anywhere.[7]
