Master of ships
The master of ships is the king on the Iron Throne's advisor charged with running the royal navy and is a member of the small council in King's Landing. Duties of the master of ships include arranging for the building and maintenance of warships, obtaining crews for the warships and commanding naval operations.

History
During the War of Conquest Daemon Velaryon served as the first master of ships and died during the war in Gulltown when the Targaryen fleet was put to the torch.
Recent Events
A Game of Thrones
The seat is vacant on the council as Stannis Baratheon has fled King's Landing after the death of Jon Arryn.
A Clash of Kings
After Stannis's attempt to take the capital is defeated by the Lannisters and Tyrells, Lord Mace Tyrell is made master of ships as part of the new alliance.
A Feast for Crows
After the death of Tywin Lannister, Queen Regent Cersei Lannister renames the office grand admiral. She also removes Lord Mace and his bannermen from the council, naming Aurane Waters to the seat.[1] After Cersei's arrest by the Faith, Aurane flees the capital with the new fleet she had commissioned.
A Dance with Dragons
The new regent Ser Kevan Lannister names Lord Paxter Redwyne as the new grand admiral. He remains away from court after the Siege of Dragonstone, and intends to sail his fleet back to the Reach to deal with the Greyjoy attacks there.

- Lord Daemon Velaryon, who served his kinsman Aegon the Conqueror
- Ser Tyland Lannister, who served Viserys I Targaryen, switching to master of coin after the king's death.
- Alyn Velaryon, who was probably master of ships for his cousin Daeron I Targaryen during the Conquest of Dorne.
- Lord Stannis Baratheon, who serves his brother Robert Baratheon until withdrawing to Dragonstone after the death of Jon Arryn
- Lord Mace Tyrell, who takes up the office as part of his House's alliance with the Lannisters after defeating Stannis's assault on King's Landing.
- Aurane Waters - grand admiral.[1] A Velaryon bastard with whom Queen Regent Cersei Lannister replaces Lord Tyrell.
- Lord Paxter Redwyne - grand admiral and master of ships. Appointed by the Hand of the King, Mace Tyrell, after Cersei's arrest by the Faith and Aurane's subsequent retreat from the capital.
