The Braavosi Mero, better known as the Titan's Bastard, was the commander of the Second Sons, the sellsword company. He was tall with pale green eyes, a long, bushy red-gold beard. He has an evil reputation, a reputation which has made it hard for the Second Sons to find work under his command.[1]

A Storm of Swords

Mero is the commander of the Second Sons when Daenerys Targaryen arrives at Yunkai with her host. Daenerys invites the sell swords to meet with her. When Mero arrives he tosses down his wine and leers at Dany telling her he must have fucked her or her sister back home. Dany tells him that if he brings the Second Sons over to her she will not geld him. Mero replies that a woman that tired that with her teeth and now has no teeth. He offers to show her his sword which is as long and thick as ever, but Dany tells him that she can examine it after her eunuchs cut it off. Then Dany tells him that he cannot hope to defeat her Unsullied. Mero states that the Second Sons have faced worst odds and won; Dany tells him about the Second Sons running. Dany then commands Ser Jorah to have this man killed first. Then Dany tells him he could run again. Mero states the Titan's Braavos has no tail to turn. Dany tells him that she will pay more and that if she is served faithfully the Second Sons will never have to seek hire again. He then asks for a kiss, and she replies perhaps, and then asks for his response tomorrow. He then asks for wine. When Dany tells him they have wagons, he asks for a wagon, and Dany gives it to him on the condition they drink to her health.[2]

When Mero leaves, Whitebeard advises Dany that Mero has an evil reputation. Ser Jorah agrees, adding that the Second Sons are and old and good company, and that under Mero they have been as dangerous to their employers as to his foes, and none of the free cities will hire him.[2]

He had fled into the gathered refugees that followed Daenerys to Meereen. There, when Daenerys rode through the refugee camps, he attempted to kill her. He had shaved his beard to hide his appearance. He was stopped from killing Daenerys by Arstan, and was torn apart by the freedmen in the camps.[3]
