The Myrish Bloodbath was a civil war that occurred between two rival factions in the Free City of Myr between 91 AC and 92 AC. While initially confined to Myr, the war also greatly affected Westeros and House Targaryen when the island of Tarth was invaded by Myrish exiles.[1]

History

The exact details of what happened in Myr are vague. Archmaester Gyldayn wrote, briefly, that two rival factions within the Free City of Myr vied for supremacy. There were riots, assassinations, poisonings, rapes, hangings, tortures, and sea battles. The losing faction fled the city, and tried to set up a base on the Stepstones. However, they were hounded from there by the Archon of Tyrosh, who had made a common cause with a league of pirate kings.

In desperation, the rogues fled to Tarth. Lord Cameron Tarth, the Evenstar, was taken off guard, and the Myrmen secured the entire eastern side of the island. The Iron Throne came to Tarth's aid, sending the Velaryon fleet, under the command of Lord Corlys Velaryon, on the ninth day of the third month of 92 AC. The ships would protect Lord Boremund Baratheon's stormlander levies that would be crossing to Tarth to join with the Evenstar's men. Prince Aemon Targaryen was also sent with his dragon Caraxes. It was believed that the combined strength of the forces would be more than enough to retake Tarth.

Prince Aemon arrived first, flying on his dragon, and met the Evenstar at his hidden camp in the mountains in the center of the island. However, the camp was found by two Myrish scouts, who recognized Lord Cameron and shot at him with a crossbow. The bolt missed him, but hit Prince Aemon in the throat, killing him.

Prince Baelon Targaryen, enraged at his brother's death, soon arrived on his dragon Vhagar, and burned all the Myrish ships. When the Evenstar and Lord Boremond's forces descended upon the Myrmen, they had nowhere to escape. The Westerosi, including Prince Baelon wielding Dark Sister, wiped out the Myrish invaders, cutting down thousands and leaving them to rot along the beaches of Tarth.

Prince Baelon returned to King's Landing with Aemon's body, and the smallfolk lined the streets, calling him a hero. But when Baelon saw his mother, Queen Alysanne Targaryen, he cried in her arms, saying that he killed a thousand men, but it would not bring his brother back.[1]
