Norren was a maester in service to Lord Manfryd Mooton of Maidenpool during the civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons. He was also the keeper of the Chronicles of Maidenpool.[2]

History

When Lord Manfryd Mooton received a letter from Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen, ordering him to execute her husband Daemon's paramour Nettles, Maester Norren is among those who are asked for their counsel. When Lord Manfryd, deeply disturbed by the request to break the sacred laws of hospitality, expressed how he wished he had never read the letter, Norren suggested that "Mayhaps you never did."[2]

Norren later showed Prince Daemon Targaryen and Nettles the letter, claiming he had not shown it to anyone else. Daemon called him a bad maester but a good man, and requested that Norren would not say a word to anyone until the next day. The following morning, both Nettles and Daemon departed Maidenpool. After they were gone, Norren went to Lord Manfryd, asking him to take his maester's chain off his neck, bind his hands with it, and to deliver him to Rhaenyra for allowing a traitor to escape. Lord Manfryd replied "Keep your chain. We are all traitors here.", referring to Maidenpool declaring for King Aegon II Targaryen that night, forsaking Rhaenyra's cause.[2]
