The Pearl Emperor was the legendary second ruler of the mythic Great Empire of the Dawn. According to the tales told by the priestly scribes of Yin, he was the eldest son and the successor of the God-on-Earth, the son of the Maiden-Made-of-Light and the Lion of Night, who ruled for ten thousand years before ascending to the heavens. The Pearl Emperor then ruled for a thousand years and was followed by the Jade Emperor. He is credited by some for the construction of the Five Forts, to keep the Lion of Night and his demons away from the realms of men.[1]
