Pia
Alias Pretty Pia
Allegiance House Whent
Born Harrenhal
Books

Pia, also known as Pretty Pia, is a servant at Harrenhal. She serves in the buttery. She was sworn to House Whent and has a reputation for promiscuity. She was born at Harrenhal. [1]

Character and Appearance

Pia is young, pretty, sweet and somewhat simpleminded. Her prettiness is later marred by Ser Gregor Clegane who smashes her face in with his mailed fist, breaking her nose and teeth, knocking half of them out. She is promiscuous and has spread her legs for half of Lord Tywin Lannister’s army and never quickened, Jaime Lannister thinks she’s most likely barren. Pia develops a habit of covering her mouth when she speaks, to hide her broken teeth.

Recent Events

A Clash of Kings

When Lord Tywin Lannister takes Harrenhal, Pia works at the buttery [2] and sleeps with many of his knights.[3] After the castle is surrendered to Lord Roose Bolton, he sets up stocks near the bear pit and puts all the women who slept with Lannister armsmen, including Pia, and locks them up for any man to use.[4]

A Storm of Swords

Pia is sent from the dungeons to Jaime Lannister's bedchamber by Qyburn as he recovers in Harrenhal after losing his sword hand. She mentions that as a little girl she witnessed him being raised to the Kingsguard, and that she has long fantasized about him. Nonetheless, he sends her away.[5]

A Feast for Crows

When Jaime returns to Harrenhal, Pia is one of only three of Lady Whent's servants remaining in the castle, and not nearly so pretty as she had been; for speaking when Ser Gregor Clegane wanted silence, Ser Gregor smashed her face in with a mailed fist, breaking her pretty nose and many of her teeth, knocking half of them out. [6]

When Pia first sees Jaime she falls at his feet, sobbing and clinging to his leg with hysterical strength till Strongboar pulls her off. Jaime tells her that no one will hurt her now - but that only makes her sob louder. Jaime notices that she is very different from the sweet, simple, giggly creature who had crawled beneath his blankets during his previous stay at Harrenhal.[6] He thinks she is still pretty enough as long as she keeps her mouth closed.[7]

One of the Mountain’s men had tried to rape Pia, so Jaime commands Ser Ilyn Payne to take his head off. As they forced him to his knees the man seems honestly perplexed, saying he had her hundreds of times, they all did. When Ser Ilyn presented Pia with his head she smiled through her ruined teeth.

When the godly Ser Bonifer Hasty is named by Jaime as temporary castellan of Harrenhal, he tells Jaime that he wants Pia gone from the castle, not wanting her tempting his men by flaunting her "parts". Ser Bonifer considers her a fond of corruption. [8] Jaime agrees to take her into his entourage as a washer woman.

Pia rides with Jaime’s squires, on a gelding Josmyn Peckledon has found for her. Arriving at Castle Darry he overhears her saying that the castle is like a toy castle. He reflects that she has known no home but Harrenhal and that every castle in the realm will seem small to her, except Casterly Rock. His squire Peck is saying the same thing to her, that she must not judge other castles by Harrenhal’s size, it’s too big. Pia listens as solemnly to Peck as a girl of five being taught by her septa. Jaime thinks to himself that that’s all she is, a little girl in a woman’s body, scarred and scared.[7]

Upon arriving at Darry Jaime bathes in a tub, he is uncomfortably aware of Pia and he finds himself remembering the things she had whispered to him at Harrenhal, the night Qyburn had sent her to his bed. He is grateful when the bath becomes deep enough to conceal his arousal and reminds himself: remember your vows. Pia is more fit for Tyrion’s bed than yours.[7]

After dismissing her he asks his squire Josmyn Peckledon if he wants her, Peck turns bright red and Jaime tells him to take her if she'll have him and that he is not likely to get a bastard by her. He advises him to be kind to her if he beds her, to treat her as he would his bride.[7] Later Jaime has a dream where he had found his sister having sex with Moon Boy, then he kills the fool and smashes Cersei’s teeth to splinters - just as the Mountain had done to poor Pia.

By the time they reach Riverrun, Peck and Pia are regularly having sex.[9] Jaime often goes to sleep to the sound of them having sex in a corner of the tent. Pia is present in the tent when Jaime delivers his terms to Edmure Tully.
