Queen Alysanne's laws is the collective term the smallfolk use when referring to laws passed during the reign of King Jaehaerys I Targaryen that were enacted on the influence of his wife, Queen Alysanne Targaryen.[1]

Known laws

  • When Alysanne hosted her women's courts she became aware of the plight of widows throughout the realm. Under her direction the widow's Law was put in place in 52 AC.[1]
  • Abolition of the lord's right to the First night. After Queen Alysanne heard numerous horror stories by women involving this archaic custom, she persuaded the small council to declare it illegal in 58 AC, and that henceforth a bride's maidenhead would only belong to her husband, whether joined before a septon or a heart tree, and any man, be they lord or peasant, who would forcibly take her on her wedding night or any other night would be guilty of rape.[2]
