Eventually Maegor's cruelty grew great enough that Prince Aegon rallied what forces he could in rebellion against him, rallying behind his dragon Quicksilver.  They engaged Maegor's royal army, with Maegor riding Balerion, in the [[Battle Beneath the Gods Eye]]. Quicksilver was not a very young dragon at this point, at least two decades old, but it was nowhere near the size and raw power of Balerion (who was by then around a century and a half old and of tremendous size).  Balerion made short work of Quicksilver, killing both dragon and rider.

Quicksilver was the dragon of King Aenys I Targaryen[1] and his son, Prince Aegon Targaryen.[2]

Appearance

In 43 AC, Quicksilver was a quarter the size of Balerion. Her fireballs were pale white in color.[3]

History

As a hatchling, Quicksilver bonded with Prince Aenys Targaryen. The rumors that Aenys had been fathered by someone else than King Aegon I Targaryen came to an end when the condition of Aenys, who had been sickly from birth, quickly improved after this.[3][1]

In 23 AC, Aenys flew upon Quicksilver to Sunspear in Dorne to attend the feast held to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the peace between Dorne and the Iron Throne.[3] Aenys succeeded his father Aegon I Targaryen as king in 37 AC. At his father's death, he was at Highgarden with Quicksilver, and flew upon the dragon to Dragonstone to attend his father's funeral.[3] He was with Quicksilver at Riverrun when rebellions broke out later that same year. When word reached them that the outlaw called Harren the Red had killed Lord Gargon Qoherys of Harrenhal and claimed the castle for himself, Lord Tully urged Aenys to mount Quicksilver and descend on Harrenhal as Aegon I had done during the Conquest. Aenys refused.[3]

Aenys died in 42 AC, and his half-brother Maegor claimed the Iron Throne. When Maegor I Targaryen became king, both Quicksilver and Dreamfyre remained in King's Landing. While Maegor was in Oldtown in 43 AC, Rhaena and Aegon took note of Maegor's absence from the capital. They managed to successfully infiltrate King's Landing with the help of several collaborators within the city, though they knew they dare not seize the throne as they lacked the strength to hold it. They had come for dragons - Rhaena was reunited with Dreamfyre and Aegon finally claimed a dragon, his late father's beloved mount, Quicksilver.[4] Aegon attempted to win back the throne that by rights was his, but in 43 AC both Quicksilver and Aegon died fighting Maegor upon his dragon Balerion during the Battle Beneath the Gods Eye. Balerion grabbed Quicksilver's throat in his jaws, then ripped one of Quicksilver's wings from its body in mid-air, after which Quicksilver fell to its death, along with young Aegon.[2]
