A Feast for Crows
When Saltpans is raided by a group reportedly led by Sandor Clegane (actually Rorge wearing Clegane's signature Hound helmet), Ser Quincy order his castle gates shut and never leaves the castle to help the inhabitants of the town. The town is burned and the smallfolk scatter. He did not come out to help the smallfolk during the sack. Septon Meribald defends Quincy by saying that his sons and good-sons are dead or off fighting, his grandsons are still too young and he has two daughters. He had nothing to face the outlaws with.
Quotes about Quincy
He sent men off to the riverlands to fight but never went himself. Lions sacked his town, then wolves, then sellswords, and his lordship just sat safe behind his walls.
He could have tried. He could have died. Young or old, a true knight is sworn to protect those who are weaker than himself, or die in the attempt.
– Brienne's internal monologue on Ser Quincy
When you cross to Saltpans, no doubt Ser Quincy will ask you for forgiveness. I am glad you are here to give it. I could not.
