Raymun Fossoway was a knight of House Fossoway of Cider Hall, who founded House Fossoway of New Barrel in 209 AC.

Appearance and Character

Raymun was stocky, with a square face and a pug nose. He had short, wooly hair, and an engaging smile.[1]

Raymun was more honorable than his cousin, Ser Steffon Fossoway. Steffon often referred to him as "an apple that's not ripe yet."[1]

Raymun's shield initially bore the red apple of the Fossoways, but he painted it green after receiving knighthood.[1]

History

Raymun attended the tourney at Ashford Meadow as the squire of Ser Steffon Fossoway, his older cousin. Raymun befriended Ser Duncan the Tall during the tourney.[1]

After Steffon's betrayal of Duncan, to whom he had pledged his sword in the coming trial of seven, Raymun took his cousin's place. When Duncan hesitated in honoring Raymun's request to be knighted, Ser Lyonel Baratheon intervened and granted knighthood on the youth. To avoid confusion with his cousin, Raymund repainted the red apple on his shield green. During the trial he fought Steffon, matching him blow for blow. Both left the field standing.[1]

House Fossoway of New Barrel, the "green-apple Fossoways", was eventually recognized as a cadet branch of House Fossoway of Cider Hall.[2]

Quotes by Raymun

My cousin has promised to knight me, but insists that I am not ripe yet.[1]

—Raymun, to Duncan the Tall

I may not be ripe, but my good cousin is rotten to the core. Knock the seeds out of him.[1]

—Raymun, to Duncan the Tall

Raymun: If you think I wish any part of this, you're as thick as you are vile.

Steffon: Vile? Guard your tongue, Raymun. We're both apples from the same tree. And you are my squire. Or have you forgotten your vows?
Raymun: No. Have you forgotten yours? You swore to be a knight.

Steffon: I shall be more than a knight before this day is done. Lord Fossoway. I like the sound of that.[1]

—Raymun and Steffon Fossoway

I needed to make a small change to my sigil, lest I be mistaken for my dishonorable cousin. I fear I am still not ripe ... but better green than wormy, eh?[1]

—Raymun, to Duncan the Tall

Quotes about Raymun

Here's an apple that's not ripe yet.[1]

Steffon Fossoway to Raymun

Raymun of House Fossoway, in the name of the Warrior I charge you to be brave. In the name of the Father I charge you to be just. In the name of the Mother I charge you to defend the young and innocent. In the name of the Maid I charge you to protect all women.[1]

Lyonel Baratheon to Raymun
