Ser Regis Groves was a knight of the Kingsguard during the reign of King Aegon III Targaryen.

History

Since the Battle Above the Gods Eye Harrenhal had become a place where outlaws, robber knights, and broken men gathered, who preyed upon the local traveling smallfolk. It was said that a powerful witch queen ruled over them.[1]

When the tales from Harrenhal reached King's Landing, the Hand of the King, Ser Tyland Lannister, decided it was time to reclaim the castle. Ser Regis was entrusted with this task with fifty men under his commander. On the way, he was joined by Ser Damon Darry from Castle Darry with another fifty men.[1]

Ser Regis and his men arrived before Harrenhal founding the gates barred and six hundred people within, he demanded to speak to their leader, the witch queen appeared with a young boy. The witch being Alys Rivers and the boy she claimed was the bastard son of Prince Aemond Targaryen. Alys commanded Regis to kneel and swear his sword to the rightful king of Westeros, Regis laughed at her and refused to do so.[1]

Accounts differ on what happened next. Some say Alys Rivers raised a hand, and Regis screamed and held his head until his skull burst. Others that the raised hand was signal for a crossbowman on battlements to shot a bolt through his eye. Mushroom, who was hundreds of leagues away, claims it was a lead ball from a slingshot.[1]

As soon as Ser Regis lay dead the gates of Harrenhal opened and the riders within charged out, a bloody battle ensued and the king's men were routed.[1]

Quotes by Regis

I do not kneel to bastards, much less the baseborn whelp of a kinslayer and a milk cow.[1]
