Robert Strong is Gregor Clegane

It is widely believed among readers (and according to Kevan Lannister, among members of the Small Council as well) that Ser Robert Strong is in fact the reanimated corpse of Ser Gregor Clegane, although he falls just short of saying so.

Indeed, the circunstances and moment of his appearance and his physical build have left both characters and readers with a strong suspicion that Ser Robert Strong is in fact a reanimated Ser Gregor Clegane.

Evidence

As of the last page of A Dance with Dragons, we have seen and learned very little of Robert Strong. But what little we know implies that he is not really human, and in fact his body does not have a normal physiology. He never eats, drinks, or even uses a privy, at least not as far as other people know.[1] Nor does he speak. Qyburn is the only one who claims to have any knowledge of him before he entered his huge armor, and his claim that Ser Robert made what is effectively a vow of perpetual silence is very suspicious.[2]

Of course, another very strong evidence is their physical resemblance, as it is. There are precious few eight feet tall people around, be it living, dead or undead. And while the head of Ser Gregor is supposed to have been sent to Dorne,[3] Ser Robert apparently never shows his face beneath his greathelm, so there is no conclusive proof that he actually has a head.[4]

Circunstantially, it may also be noted that Cersei has on occasion chosen both Ser Gregor and Ser Robert[5] as her champions in Trial by combat. It may well be simply because both are physically impressive warriors, but it is remarkable that she trusts her future to someone that she has barely met and has no history with.
