Royce Caron was the Lord of Nightsong and Marshal of the Marches during the civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons and the reign of King Aegon III Targaryen.[3]

History

After the Hour of the Wolf, lords and ladies from all around Westeros came to King's Landing to assist to the coronation of Prince Aegon the Younger and his marriage to Princess Jaehaera Targaryen.[1] Royce's daughter, Lady Elenda, gave birth to a son seven days after the death of her husband, Lord Borros Baratheon of Storm's End. Lord Borros had wished Elenda named their son Aegon after King Aegon II Targaryen but she named him Royce after her father instead. Weakened by the delivery, the newly widowed Lady of Storm's End could not make the travel to the capital. Instead she sent her daughters Cassandra, Floris and Ellyn to represent House Baratheon with Lord Royce escorting his granddaughters to the city and acting as their guardian.[1]

After the coronation of King Aegon III Targaryen, Royce became a member of the council of seven regents that ruled until the child-king came of age.[3][1] Lord Royce, however, resigned his post in 132 AC to return to the Dornish Marches where the Dornishmen, encouraged by their new ruler Princess Aliandra Martell, raided and plundered the region.[1] He was not able to return to court the following year after the death of the Hand of the King, Ser Tyland Lannister, as he was still dealing with the Dornishmen.[4]
