Lady Serenei was the last daughter from an impoverished Valyrian noble family. She was cold and haughty towards others at court. She was considered the most beautiful of Aegon's mistresses. Rumors spread that that she was much older than the king, practicing dark arts to retain her youth and beauty. The rumors that she used dark magic to maintain her beauty, also followed her daughter.
