Stafford Lannnister is a knight of House Lannister. He is brother in law to the ruling lord as his sister Joanna Lannister married their cousin Tywin Lannister.[2]
History
In his youth he was captured by Lady Tarbeck in retaliation for the imprisonment of her lord husband. He may have been one of Cersei's two uncles unhorsed by Rhaegar Targaryen in a tourney at Lannisport in 276AC. Ser Jaime Lannister and Ser Brynden Tully are both unimpressed by Stafford's capacities as a war leader.[3][4]
Recent Events
A Clash of Kings
After the defeat of Ser Jaime Lannister Stafford started raising a new army near Lannisport. Because the force consisted of inexperienced men, it took a long time to train them.[4]
With the castles guarding the main entrance to the Westerlands in the hands of the Lannisters, Stafford felt safe and did not post sentries. This was his downfall. The Stark army invaded the west through a hidden path in the mountains. Unseen by the guardian castles on the main road, they descended on Stafford's army in the night. The surprised Lannister host was unable to fight back and was routed. Stafford himself was killed by Lord Rickard Karstark when he tried to reach his horse.[5] After Stafford's death, his more capable son Ser Daven takes charge of his branch of House Lannister.

Family
Stafford is married to Myranda Lefford with whom he has three children, Ser Daven, Cerenna and Myrielle Lannister.[2][6]
