The taking of Maidenpool occurs during the War of the Five Kings.[1]

Prelude

The town of Maidenpool is sacked first by "lions", again by "wolves", and finally by outlaws. William Mooton, Lord of Maidenpool, remains in his castle and does not defend the town each time it is attacked.[1] The town's gates are destroyed, half of the buildings are burned or plundered, and its famous pool is filled with corpses.[2]

Randyll Tarly

Lord Randyll Tarly, the victor of Duskendale, takes the castle of Maidenpool with the support of Lord Renfred Rykker of Duskendale[3] and imprisons Lord Mooton in a tower cell.[4] It is unknown if there is armed resistance by the Mootons.

With Maidenpool occupied by House Tarly after the Red Wedding,[5] a pardon is issued to Lord William by the Iron Throne.[6] Randyll's soldiers—including Bettleys, Caswells, Hunts, Leygoods, and Sarsfields—hunt down outlaws and begin to rebuild the town.[1][7] Randyll marries his son Dickon to William's daughter Eleanor.[8] Maidenpool is to be restored to the Mootons once the war has ended.[1]
