:I think it should be "Featured" being the adjective that describes the quote, rather than "Feature" which is a noun, and it's awkward being paired with another noun. (I said the same thing in the main page talk page.) About the tenses, as verbs, feature and featured can mean present and past tense, but in such a way like "let's feature this quote" and "this quote was featured yesterday". But I think that's a different thing, that's verbs. I mean, I know what a feature is, and what a quote is, but what is a "feature quote"? Sounds weird. A "featured quote" though sounds quite fine. Okay, I didn't quite understand how to add quotes, so I need somebody else to add them for me. Here they are. (with their sources, in case the person adding wants to look them up for context)

To add new qoute edit the Featured qoute page and add the line [[Feature quote/72|Seventy-second quote]] {{:Feature quote/72}}
At the bottum after the last such line (Replacing the 72 with the next number inline).
After finishing, click on the Newly showing red links and write down your qoutes, after you finish paste the line at the end<noinclude>[[Category:Feature quotes]]</noinclude>
Done. Mor 06:20, 26 August 2011 (CDT)
Sorry I just noticed but there is already a section explaning how to Add new quotes which explains it better. Mor

Hi I changed the template: added the new quotes and changed the code that determines which quote number is to be selected. Instead of using the day of the month to determine the quote no, the template uses a template that computes the day of the year. Because we don't have (yet) 365 quotes the template computes the mod of the current number of quotes (of 365 minus the day of the year). I hope it works now.

Thanks for the work on this and many other templates, Scafloc! Unfortunately, the upgrade to 1.14 seems to have broken some templates -- at least, that one is currently not working from the looks of the front page. Something about 'expression' not being recognized. --Ran 15:20, 21 May 2009 (UTC)
The problem with the expression has to do with the Template:Day in year. For some reason using that template does not result in a number. Because the code in Feature quote expects a number this results in an error. As a temporary solution I include the complete code of Template:Day in year. Then the day of the year is computed and the feature quote works. Scafloc 11:08, 22 May 2009 (UTC)

"Feature" or "Featured"?

There were places where it was listed as "feature", and a couple others where it was cited as "featured"...I began to edit the page to only use the word "featured", thinking that the use of "feature" was in error, but then realized that it appeared that perhaps "featured" was the inconsistent word.

For consistency, every reference should be one or the other, instead of having it be "feature" sometimes, and "featured" in other places, unless of course the reference is to a feature article that was featured at some previous point. Not trying to be persnickety, just trying to help ensure consistency of content, particularly since the feature article / quote are so prominently featured.  :)

My own feeling on the use of "feature" or "featured" is that both references to the article and the quote should use the word "featured", since "featured" has a more specific and less ambiguous meaning: "Given special prominence, attention, or publicity"....while "feature" can also mean the same thing (just in present tense), it can also mean other things that are not what is intended by the actual context in which the word "feature" is being used.

If changing it to "featured" is unduly labor-intensive (with page name changes and the like), then I don't see a huge problem leaving it as "feature" (although I would be happy to help make the changes necessary to change all references to "featured" if that is what is desired). But either way, we should make sure that all references to such are "feature" and not "featured", unless as I mentioned before it's in the context of referencing a previously featured feature article or quote.

Hope this makes sense...I welcome feedback on this topic. Thanks in advance,

I think it should be "Featured" being the adjective that describes the quote, rather than "Feature" which is a noun, and it's awkward being paired with another noun. missplaced references

This page now causes the references section to appear before the list of quotes. Does anyone know the how to fix this problem.

The list of quotes are displayed within a table and the table was missing the characters that indicate the end of the table. They were probably accidentally removed in one of the last changes. I have added them again. Scafloc 08:10, 10 July 2012 (UTC)
